"Life" break

Last Thursday (June 24) was my daughter's birthday. I took a break from making cards from the "Life" stamp set so I could make her this birthday card. This uses another Papertrey Ink stamp set. The beauty of this set is that it has dies that match the stamps. LOVE IT :). No more scissor cutting. I find that I am sometimes scissor challenged when it comes to cutting around something that I have stamped. I really like the 3-D effect when an image is raised with a little foam tape.

I used a scrap of dotted lavender cardstock to die cut the flowers. After stamping the die cuts, with a black dye ink I added depth to the flowers and leaves using copic markers. A green dotted cardstock was used for the leaves. A little bit of flower soft added dimension to the center of the flowers. I am "lovin" rhinestones so of course I had to add a few to the center of the flowers. The background was stamped with the smaller flower and leaf from the "Delightful Dahlia" stamp set. Everything was highlighted with the Sakura Stardust clear gel pen that I bought at JoAnn's. (There are two in a package @$4.00/pkg)

The next post will show you more cards from the "Life" set. As I mentioned before ...I feel as though I get more for my money when I can make several cards from the same stamp set.

Celebrate "Life"

Here is another card using stamps from the "Life" set from PTI. I used a script stamp from Inkadinkado to make the background. The foliage was stamped with black dye ink. I used the 2 floral stamps from the previous card and added 2 more foliage stamps from the set. The butterfly was punched out of black cardstock, mounted on Stardust text weight paper, and cut out with scissors. The punch is from Martha Stewart. A black button, floss, rhinestones and highlights using a "Sakura" stardust clear pen added a little "bling" without over doing it. Remove the rhinestones and use jute in the button instead of floss and this could be a masculine card. This card uses 6 of the 15 stamps in the set.

"Life" goes on!

This is another card made from the "Life" set from PTI. There are 15 stamps in this set. I used 2 stamps for the floral panel and 2 for the sentiment. I like being able to make several different looking cards from a stamp set and this set offers lots of variety. Isn't it great to get your monies worth out of your stamps? I don't mind paying more for stamps when I can use them more than a couple of times. I will be posting different cards using the same set. Since there are 11 stamps yet to use, the possibilities are endless.

Masculine Challenge

I made this card for Betsy V's color challenge. This is my first challenge so I'm a little nervous. In fact I just started my blog last week and I find this "cyber-space" stuff intimidating to say the least. So please be patient with me.

I chose this color palette for my card. The stamps are from PTI ("Life" set).

Did you notice the little bird in the bottom right corner? My husband's grandfather carved the bird in 1969. His grandfather (Carl) came to the USA from Sweden when he was a young boy. Carl worked as optical toolmaker until he was 77 yrs.old. When he retired he started this "wood carving" hobby. He used a small penknife of Swedish stainless steel to prefect his art. He was accustomed to long days and usually spent 10 hrs. a day carving in his workshop. Many of his carved pieces were painted and some were left to show the natural wood grain. Be on the look out for more carvings in future posts.

June 17, 2010

I had so much fun making the floral bookmark cards that I thought I would make a masculine card. I find cards for men challenging to say the least. This card has the bookmark on the front rather than on the inside. The background stamp on the bookmark is from Stampscapes (Twisted Leaves 275D). I picked out two ink pads that matched the paper and stamped on scrap paper before stamping on the bookmark. This left the background light so the verse would show up better. The edges were sponged with brown dye ink. The verse is a Cloud 9 set by Fiskars (Simple Thoughts). I embossed the leaves above and below the verse with Stampendous "Golden Sand" embossing powder.

I used the striped paper from an "Earth's Palette" creative pack from HOTP. The leaf die cut is from Sizzix (Flowers, Branches & Leaves Set # 656064). I cut a portion of the leaf die and saved the rest for the inside of the card. Three dew drops added a little bit of "bling".

I stamped and embossed the twisted leaves stamp on the inside flap using Golden Sand embossing powder. This dressed up the inside but still kept the masculine look.
I usually keep the inside blank until I am ready to give the card. By doing this I can match the verse with the occasion.

Welcome to Ink'd Wings. These bookmark cards were done with markers colored directly onto the stamps. After a light sptitz of water I stamped image on white card stock. The flowers were stamped a second time without re-coloring the stamp. I just "huffed" on the image and stamped again. I stamped again with Versa mark and embossed with Star Dust embossing powder to give it a little sparkle.

I used the Tim Holtz cling mount set "Nature's Moments CMS 001" for the card below. Marvy markers #15, 36, 106 were used for the flowers and the bird. The ribbon is from Michael's.

This card uses stamps from Rubber Stampede (Solidago Sprig #2875F) and Stampendous (Hummingbird Flight F083). Marvy markers # 36, 80, 96 were used to color the flower and the hummingbird. The ribbon came from my "scrap stash".

The last card uses an Inky Antics stamp (Dragonfly 10118F ) and the same Rubber Stampede Sprig as the card above. Marvy markers #15, 36, 106. Ribbon from JoAnn's.

The bookmark inside uses a Daisy Bucket Designs Stamp(#5138). I stamped the inside with the same images that were used on the front.
